How to Make a T-Shirt With
Cricut?
There is a step-by-step
process to making a customized T-shirt using infusible ink. Follow each step
carefully.
Choose the Design
Start by choosing the
design you want to put on your T-shirt. You can either create your own design
or use a pre-made design from the Cricut Design Space. Once you have made the
design, you can print it using your Cricut machine. We are using Explore Air 2.
It will work well for your design even if you have an older printer.
Prepare the Material
Cut a piece of infusible
ink transfer sheet that is slightly larger than your design. Place the colored
side of the infusible ink transfer sheet face down onto the cutting mat.
Load the Design Into the Cricut
Design Space
If you're using your own
design, upload it into Cricut Design Space. Once you've uploaded your design,
you can modify it by resizing, rotating, or changing the color.
Cut the Design
Set your Cricut machine
to cut the design. Make sure to mirror the design before cutting so that it is
backward on the infusible ink transfer sheet. This step is very important as
the design will be flipped over and transferred onto the T-shirt, and you want
the design to appear correct.
Weed the Design
Remove the excess
infusible ink transfer sheet around your design. This step is known as
"weeding." Use a weeding tool to carefully remove the tiny pieces of
the transfer sheet within the design.
Prepare Your T-Shirt
When the design is set,
prepare your T-shirt. Use a lint roller to discard all the debris and fibers
from your T-shirt. Don't avoid this step, as it may ruin your final design.
Load the T-Shirt on Cricut Mat
Once you have cleaned
the T-shirt, place it on the easy press mat. Ensure that the mat covers the
area you want to apply heat on. Now, apply the infusible ink sheet design to
that area. Then, you will observe that the backing of the infusible ink shirt
sticks to the area. You can apply heat-resistant tape to keep the design secure
in its place.
Pre-heat the T-Shirt
Set your heat press to
the appropriate temperature for your T-shirt material, and pre-heat the T-shirt
for a few seconds. The standard setting to pre-heat the T-shirt is 385 degrees
for 40 seconds. The easy press will turn green when it gets fully heated up.
Apply the Design
Place the weeded
infusible ink transfer sheet onto the T-shirt with the colored side down. Cover
the design with a piece of butcher paper. Press the heat press onto the design
for the recommended time and temperature according to the infusible ink
transfer sheet instructions. Typically apply the pressure for 40 seconds, then
remove the easy press and allow the shirt to cool.
Peel off the Transfer Sheet
Once the time is over,
carefully peel off the transfer sheet while it's still hot. Make sure to peel
it off in one smooth motion to avoid smudging or damage to the design. Be
careful while peeling off to prevent ink staining on the other side of the
T-shirt.
Enjoy Your T-Shirt
Once the transfer sheet
is removed, your T-shirt is ready to wear! The infusible ink design will be
long-lasting, vibrant, and won't crack or peel over time.
That's it! You've
successfully made a T-shirt with Cricut using infusible ink. Just make sure to
follow the instructions carefully, and you'll have a personalized T-shirt in no
time.
